Muckross Traditional Farms

Farming has been an intrinsic part of the Irish way of life since 4500BC. Methods, tooling and traditions have evolved beyond all recognition. Muckross Traditional Farms offer a snap shot of Ireland’s farming in the 1930’s and 1940’s, a hugely nostalgic period before the advent of electricity.

Muckross Traditional Farms

Muckross Traditional Farms are situated adjacent to Muckross House. This unique visitor attraction recreates Ireland in the 1930s and 1940s, a period before the widespread use of electricity, when all work was carried out using traditional methods. It consists of three separate working farms, each complete with animals, poultry and horse drawn farm machinery. It also features a labourer’s cottage, a carpenter’s workshop, a harness maker and a blacksmith’s forge. The interiors of the dwelling houses are furnished in the traditional manner, and include such items as the dresser, settle bed and meal bin. For families there is also a Pet Farm Area, Bouncy Castle and Woodland Play area. The Farms are open from 10am until 6pm during July and August and from 1am until 6pm in April, May and October
