It’s almost time for Ireland's national day and there is no better place to be than in Killarney for what is going to be a thrilling four day weekend this year. We have put together this day to day itinerary to help you plan the ultimate St. Patrick's Day getaway to Killarney.

After a two year absence, the St. Patricks Day parade returns in full swing. While there will be parades occurring all over Ireland you do not want to miss the festivities of the parade in Killarney. Be amazed as all the procession of floats and vehicles makes their way around the town with many talented performers assisting. The parade captures the essence of Killarney and is a celebration of all things Irish. Make sure to grab a green ice cream cone while you’re in town.

Once nighttime hits we highly recommend a walk around the town to see all the buildings lit up with a beautiful shade of green. If you have the time you should head out to Ross Castle which is a sight to behold on this special day.

End your day by enjoying some live music and craic in the town centre after your busy day.

Make sure to visit the Killarney St. Patricks Day   Facebook Page

Now today will be a nice relaxed day for those of you who may have a sore head after the previous day’s festivities. You should start your day with a lovely breakfast at the Gleneagle Hotel. Following this, we recommend a trip out to Muckross House and Gardens. Take a nice leisurely stroll around the gardens and a tour of the house if you fancy. We also highly recommend getting a jaunting car ride around Muckross. Your jarvey will fill your head with knowledge and your heart with laughter as they tell you tales of the areas you will be passing through.

Enjoy one of the many circular walks along the Muckross Lake shoreline following your jaunting car trip. Take in the idyllic views as you gaze across the lake into the horizon.

Why not unwind after your walk and head into Killarney for some Afternoon Tea. Indulge in cakes to die for and choose from a range of luxury teas. With many locations offering it we’re sure you will find the perfect location for you.

A big day of travelling is in store for you on what will be an action-packed Saturday as you tour one of Irelands most scenic routes, The Ring of Kerry. We recommend starting your day early and either taking your own car or renting one as this drive will take anywhere between 4 and 9 hours depending on the number of stops that you make. There are numerous stops that you can make along the Ring of Kerry but we will just suggest a few of our personal favourites

  • Ladies View
  • Moll’s Gap
  • Kerry Cliffs
  • Portmagee
  • Valentia Island
  • Derrynane National Park
  • Cahergal Stone Fort

There are many other brilliant stops you will find along the Ring and of course plenty of photo opportunities along the way. If you require a rental car make sure to  click here

Once you return to Killarney following your tour of the ring, you should head out to the INEC at the Gleneagle for the “Biggest 90s/00s Disco & Concert”. A night of singing, dancing and glee are in store for you. The perfect way to end your day. Get your tickets here

Sunday may be the last day of the long weekend but we guarantee it will be just as much fun as the rest of the days. A guided boat tour of the Lakes of Killarney is a must for your last day. Be amazed as you are taken around the lakes and up through the Gap of Dunloe. Make sure you stop off at Inisfallen Island as well to see the Deer and Old Monastery.

Following your boat trip, a tour of the interior of Ross Castle is a must. You will be told about the history of the castle and how it was used and defended hundreds of years ago. This is a unique experience that won’t take too much of your time.

We also have another excellent Killarney experience available with Killarney Falconry. You will be accompanied by a falconer and their bird of prey as you walk through the national park together. You will be amazed at the relationship between the falconer and his bird.

To end your day you should check out the entertainment at The Gleneagle or alternatively give a walk around Killarney Town and let the music draw you into a nice snug pub.
