Gap of Dunloe

The Gap of Dunloe is a stunning mountain pass found just outside Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, that separates the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks mountain range in the west, from the Purple Mountain Group range in the east.

Visitors from all over come to Gap of Dunloe to see its world famous scenery. Stop off at the wishing bridge which is said that if you make a wish while on the bridge the wish is destined to come true. There are many lakes and waterfalls scattered around the Gap of Dunloe so it is well worth exploring a little to see what beauties of nature you can find.

Of course any trip to the Gap is not complete without stopping off at Kate Kearney’s Cottage for some food or a pint. This 150 year old bar & restaurant is located at the entrance to the gap and there are jaunting cars available from just outside that will take you through the gap if you choose not to walk. You can get a boat from the end of the Gap over the Upper Lake and all the way to Ross Castle.

Overall if you decide to walk the gap this 6km trek will take about 1 hour each way if you choose not to get a boat trip at the end.
