A UNESCO world heritage site, Skellig Michael recently received a huge boost in global interest having featured in the Star Wars franchise. It is a truly remarkable place, and can be accessed by boat from May through to September. Numbers are limited so early booking is advisable. The Skellig Visitor Centre is well worth a visit also and provides a welcome alternative to a boat trip.
The Skellig Experience Visitor Centre is a fantastic way to learn about the many aspects of the offshore Skellig islands while remaining on the dry land. Located on the waterfront beside the Valentia Island bridge, this centre focuses on four themes – the works and lives of the Skellig monks, the seabirds, the lighthouses and live underwater. For details and information on how to book boat trips both to and around the Skelligs visit their website.
Skellig Coast Adventures offer fantastic boat trips and eco boat trips to the world-famous Skellig Islands. Please check out their website for more information
