Innisfallen Island

Innisfallen Island

This serene and peaceful island can be accessed by boat from Ross Castle. It is the biggest island on Lough Leane and settlements here dates back to the 7th century. The ruins of a church and an Augustinian Priory are still visible today. The island is steeped in history, it was an important educational centre and it is believed that the high king of Munster Brian Boru was educated here. The famous Annals of Innisfallen were compiled here.
